Owls Afterschool

The Owls Afterschool Club is currently based from the end of school until 4.15pm in the ICT suite.  From 4.15pm until 5.45pm the club moves to the school hall and has been set up to provide childcare after school for the pupils of Upshire School and now Fledglings Pre-school.*

A sample menu is at the foot of this page.

The club is open from the end of the school day to 5.45pm Monday to Friday during term time for Upshire School pupils. We are able to take Pre-school children from the age of 9 months from 3.15pm to 5.00pm.  There are separate banded charges for Pre-school children.

We are flexible to meet your needs:

  • bookings can be on a regular or on an ad hoc basis;
  • children can attend any number of days a week.

Children are offered a drink and a biscuit at the start of the club.

Children attending the later sessions at the club will be given a snack.  This is to tide them over and is not to take the place of their evening meal.

  • peace of mind for parents/carers, knowing that your child is safe and happy in a club that is reliable and offers a consistent service.

The Afterschool Club will:

  • provide the highest possible standard of care in secure and supportive surroundings;
  • create an environment where children can relax after the school day. We want them to feel comfortable and happy;
  • encourage children to join in a variety of activities and play;
  • create opportunities to support learning (by helping with homework and reading);
  • employ caring and qualified supervisory staff.
Staffing

There will be one Afterschool Club Leader and two Assistants. They all have an enhanced CRB, are First Aiders and have a certificate in Food Hygiene.

Routine

All Key Stage 2 children booked into the club will be informed before the end of the school day that they are attending. The class teacher will also be made aware of the children attending from their class.  When the bell rings for the end of school, the children will come to the ICT suite.  Children from the
Pre-school, Reception Class and Key Stage 1 will be collected from their classroom and taken to the ICT suite.

Once the register has been taken, the children will be able to choose an activity.  Snack usually takes place between 4.30pm and 4.45pm.

Collection

Only people authorised by the parents/carers on your child’s registration form are allowed to collect your child, unless staff are informed otherwise.  Pre-school children should be collected by 5.00pm and Upshire School pupils by 5.45pm.  If you are running a little late please let us know.  Children who are not collected at the collection time, and we have not been informed that you or the person authorised to pick up your child is running late, a late pick-up fee will be added to your club account.

Numbers are limited to ensure a safe adult:child ratio, so please ensure that you book your child’s place in advance.  Bookings and payment are made via our Parentmail system.

Please ensure you complete a registration form. This is available under the Afterschool Club tab, or you can speak to the school office.  If you have any queries regarding clubs, please email Mrs McPheat at the following email: lmcpheat@upshire.essex.sch.uk.  The registration form is available below, along with our T&Cs and how to book and pay for the club.

*There will be occasions when the hall is used for events. Therefore, the club will be moved to another location in the school.  You will be informed of any changes via Parentmail.
